New AI models for diary generation
The models that write your diary have been updated to the latest generation from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. You do not need to do anything: if your settings pointed to a model that has been retired, deariary has already switched you to its successor.
The new lineup
Here is the full list of models you can choose from, grouped by the plan that unlocks them.
| Plan | Previous model | New model |
|---|---|---|
| Free | GPT-5 mini | GPT-5.6 Luna |
| Basic | Claude Haiku 4.5 | Claude Haiku 4.5 (unchanged) |
| Basic | Gemini 2.5 Flash | Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite |
| Advanced | Gemini 2.5 Pro | Gemini 3.8 Flash |
| Advanced | GPT-5 | GPT-5.6 Terra |
| Advanced | Claude Sonnet 4.6 | Claude Sonnet 5 |
Higher plans include every model from the plans below them, so the Advanced plan can use all six.
What happens to your settings
If you had selected one of the retired models, your setting now points to the model in the same row of the table above. Each successor is on the same plan as the model it replaces, so nobody loses access to a model they were using.
New accounts start on GPT-5.6 Luna. On the Advanced plan, the default stays Claude Haiku 4.5.
To pick a different model, open Settings, go to Diary generation, and choose from the Model menu. The change applies from your next diary entry.
Weekly and monthly summaries
Weekly and monthly summaries are written by a lighter model paired with the one you use for daily entries. Those pairings now point to the new models as well. For example, if your daily entries use Claude Sonnet 5, your summaries are written with Claude Haiku 4.5.
Existing entries
Entries that were already written are not changed. Each entry keeps a record of the model that generated it. If you regenerate an entry, it uses the model currently selected in your settings.
